Des belles de jour en minijupe et des aïeux en costume Mao, des milliardaires et des paysans errant dans les villes. Portraits d’une Chine au milliard de facettes, les photos de Ling Fei racontent les métamorphoses de l’empire du Milieu. Réalisées entre 1979 et 1997, elles sont le mémoire du véritable bouleversement que connaît la Chine lancée dans sa Grande Marche sous l’impulsion de Deng Xiaoping et son «Enrichissez-vous». Ces tribulations révèlent une manière de vivre, de s’habiller, de s’ouvrir au monde. Elles montrent aussi tous les chocs d’une urbanisation massive, et l’écart croissant entre les riches et les pauvres, cette population qui mendie à la sortie des McDonald’s.
